584L

The Modicon 584L was a significant upgrade to the 584A. They had more memory and extended addressing. We were able to upgrade from the "L" spec to the "M"for the Swan Brewery in '84/'85 which saved the project. The logic the team had written was developed in sections and when finally assembled the 584L wouldn't run it. These were top of the range from 1983 through to 1985 when the 584M series became available.
Programming was in ladder and we used a P190 programming panel to enter the program and for diagnostics. By current standards the 584 and the P190 were very primitive, but they controlled the Pilbara mining industry for many years. These offered full dual redundant Hot-Standby systems.
These generally used 200 series I/O, introduced with the 184 series controllers, which was designed to last forever, which could be the case. Some of the original 200 series modules were still running in W.A. in 2021.
Programming tools improved and several PC based packages were available eventually for DOS and later Windows.
The packages were from Modicon and also DMC, Taylor, "Updoc" by Xcel Controls and some others.
