Modicon 184

184 SERIES

The second Modicon Programmable Controller.

This model was designed by Michael Greenberg.
Programming was in ladder and a ????? CRT programming panel was used to enter the program and for diagnostics. The 184 was a major advance on the "084".
The 184 CPU was housed in what was modestly termed a "ruggedised" case. It was close to indestructible and weighed a lot. It could have been run over with a tank and kept operating. It was designed and built for a harsh environment and thrived in a nice clean airconditioned equipment room and would probably have lasted for ever.
The 200 series I/O was built in a similar fashion. The favourite sales stunt was to "accidently" drop a card onto the floor and show that it sustained no damage. The program could be saved/stored on magnetic tape and reloaded using the L206 tape loader. The L206 connected to the PLC via a J470 adapter and serial cable.
