My 184 Story

Dampier

My first encounter with a 184 was following the 46Mtpa upgrade at Dampier in the mid 1970's.
A new control tower, very similar to those at airports was built and one level housed multiple panels containing PLC equipment.
This was all Modicon, 184 equipment utilising 200 series I/O, all supplied, programmed, installed and commisioned by Paklog out of Sydney.
It was up to the locals to keep it all running and make any changes required. I happened to be one of he locals. Experienced PLC programmers were extremely rare and not to be found in the wilds of Western Australia. Learning about the PLC's was in the sink or swim category. If nothing else, working in the Pilbara back then, tought us to be self reliant as there was not another option.
I cut my PLC programming teeth on the 184's, never expecting this would lead to a lifelong career in that field and eventually becoming a

This is a work in progress and will be expanded, time permitting.
